Green Thumb Sunday

This year in southwestern Ontario is has been very rainy , rainy day after rainy day.Do I sound tired of it , you bet. Most other summers we are praying for rain , it has been so hot and dry , this is Mother Natures way of balancing I think. Temperatures have been pleasant this summer running 25 most days with the odd day of 30.
I will stop whining.
When it isn't pouring I take the dog , Buddy for a walk every afternoon around the pond by the clubhouse I wander down to see the garden plots some homeowners have.
They grow everything from fruit to vegetables to flowers .While on one of my walks by the garden I heard some birds loudly chirping away beside the creek. What did I find ? one of my favourite fruits growing wild, elderberries! Lots of elderberry bushes. Love elderberry pie!
This year I am a little late in getting to pick this fruit before the birds but wait until next summer I will beat the little devils to these bushes or at least give them a run for the money and gather enough for 1 pie.

I'm glad that you found some of your favorite fruits. :) I know that we had a drought last year also, but this year I got tired sometimes of all of the rain that we got. Having a perfect mix just isn't in the cards I guess. :)

I have a black elderberry and a variegated elderberry in front of my house. This is only their first year and I have only one cluster of berries so not enough for a pie or jam yet. Next year I may need to ask for your recipe!
BTW Congratulations on your retirement!

Let me know when the pie is done.

It must be a muddy mess after it rains. I hope it stops long enough to let the contractor finish soon.

That's the pose my dog has when we go out. Looking to go forward but not too far ahead unless her 'backup' is right behind her. I sense she's thinking "come on, come on hurry it up will ya".

You have a beautiful area to take walks in, and the birds have certainly done a job on those berries! Good luck next year!

I don't know if I've ever tasted an elderberry! I wish we could have taken some of that rain off your hands. Finally this weekend we got three inches! The grass is still pretty brown yet, but maybe in a couple of days it will look better. In any case, it's nice to not have to water the gardens.
