In an effort to fill up my teenage grandsons hollow legs, decided to make cupcakes......They both love black forest cake. Shades of the lemon top hat cupcakes I fondly remember from my childhood , decided to make a black forest version. Yes I did cheat , a cake mix and cherry pie filling. Busy playing chauffeur .
After the cupcakes baked I then sliced a wedge out and filled with the cherry mixture.
Put wedges back on top and then dusted with icing sugar .
These are a hit.
Brock and Brayden love them even adding a bit of whipped cream on top.
I am so happy with the way they turned out would make them for a potluck..

Fantastic pictures! Very creative use of a cake mix!
That opening shot is lovely and don't those muffins look good! I like the cartoon about the escape button- I had a good chuckle when I saw it.
The look so good!!! bet they tasted as good too....
I wanted to thank you for stopping by my blog, I feel very flattened by your comment, but you are not a newbie at all!! love your cards! I´ve been checking them ;-) the last one with the birds is gorgeous! Have a lovely day!
This has reminded of a very simple cake recipe a previous co-worker once shared with me.
Take a 8x8" cake pan and line the bottom with minature marshmellows, make a chocolate boxed cake mix as per the directions on the box and pour over the marshmellows. Then pour a can of cherry pie filling over top and bake until a tester comes out clean. Generally the time stated on the box is sufficient. As it bakes the cherry's will fall through the cake mix and the marshmellows will rise, creating a similair flavor to a Black Forest Cake. NO FROSTING is necessary. Easy Peasy.
A wonderful looking cupcake...
Thanks to all of you who comment.
Yes, the boys loved them - as did Willie, who had one as soon as we got home!
