Butter Tart Squares

Butter tarts are uniquely Canadian and these squares taste just like them... Another easy and fast recipe...great for taking to picnics.
Ingredients:
Base;
1 cup all purpose flour
1/4 cup white sugar
1/2 cup butter

In small bowl combine flour sugar and butter using a pastry cutter to blend butter to a crumbly texture. Pat into 8 inch pan , bake at 350 for 15 minutes.
Topping;
2 Tbsp. butter
2 eggs lightly beaten
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 Tbsp. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. vanilla
pinch of salt
1 cup raisins
1/2 cup walnuts or nut of your choice...or leave out.
Combine all topping ingredients.
Mix well.
After base is baked for 15 minutes pour combined topping over base.

Bake at 350 for 20 -25 minutes. Let cool on rack. Cut into squares.Cover.
Refrigerate for up to 4 days........if they last that long.

Mom, these look so decadent - think I must make them!!!! The pita wedges look delicious too - will have to try those too!!!

Sherry these are very decadent. I love the pitas they are so good with a drink.

Rosanne the center is gooey and oozes when the square is room temp. that is why they need refrigerated until eaten.
