Once she leaves the hospital she will be going into a long term care home...
Besides meeting with Doctors and health care team, touring long term care homes to see which we like, my sister Donna and I have been cleaning out Mom's home ready to be sold.....
Thanks to the Internet we have been able to identify many items.
A few have us stumped.
close up of parfait dish |
Small dish is labelled Fire King on bottom.
Set of 6 dessert parfaits with cornflower pattern. From the little bit I have learned don't think this is Hughes cornflower , the rim of the dishes are quite thin.
Set of 5 light green plates with a double swirl design
look carefully to see double swirl |
looks like a lady with scarf |
not a nick or scratch on set |
Would be happy for any info you can pass my way...

My mom had those etched glasses in the first photo. I don't know the maker or pattern. They are probably from the 1940's. xo
Those are pretty. Wish I could help.
Hi Rosemary,
When my sisters and I were trying to establish values for some of my parents collections I found a website called Kovels.com that might be of use to you.
They have a section on glass in the price guide but the glass section of the forums might prove more helpful. Folks can send in pictures and ask questions re identification and value.
Just had a quick look around another website and I'm pretty sure the green glass pattern is called Cameo. Found this through www.depressionelegantglass.com
There's info there re tips on how to identify glass as well as reproductions and fakes. Haven't read the articles but they could be a start. Good luck!

Sorry, antiques are not my specialty, I hope you find some answers though. :)
The parfait dishes, look very similar to the pattern my mother had. If you want, I could get my daughter to take a photo to make sure its the same. Mom got the set as a give-a-way at a local grocery store. With so many dollars spent, a free glass, was given away. She had a complete set of 12 of everything from beer, wine, water and a million different kinds of goblets. (gosh we must have eaten a lot!!!)
Thanks for all the hints and tips. Muffy would love it if you can check....
Hi Rosemary,
I was so sorry to hear about your mother and didn't want to say anything on your blog about it until you posted something. I know it has been a trying time. I will take a peek at my antique glass handbook and see if I can identify any of your pieces. They are all so lovely.
I am sorry to hear about your mother. My sister and I had to do this 2 years ago. Most of my mothers "glass ware" is sitting in my basement. I took pictures of it and sent them to an auction house here in Calgary. The gentleman was kind enough to let me know that the market here was not good at this time to sell. He did say I had some good stuff, but wouldn't get the money that they were worth. So they sit taking up space.
