Aunty Acid

Move over Maxine!

Found a new   "lady"   with  a  humour that  appeals to me. My daughter Rosanne knows my   love of  snark / things you would love to say but don't and sent me  several  of these.......
Found out  this wonderful old lady was created from the minds of  3 Brits Ged Backland ,writer Raychel Backland and Dave Iddon  of Backland Studio in Haworth  West Yorkshire. Aunty Acid has been voted for  3 years  the woman I would love to live next door to the most....and I so would.......

Hope  you got a smile ! She certainly made me.

Pampering in a Jar

At  Christmas one of the gifts I received  was Pampering in a Jar.
Pretty tag with snowflake

Wanted to share this cute idea...
It contained   a mini bottle of wine, 3 pieces of chocolate,  facial scrub, body scrub, moisture lotion,  lip balm, and a little  scrub pad......everything one would need to spend a spa like    couple of hours taking   care of oneself............
Daughter Rosanne made up this gift . It is a  nice spin on the cookies in a jar .
Was pleasure to  get at Christmas but  think this would make  a great gift for  girlfriends on  any occasion. Birthdays , Just Because, Beat the Mid Winter Blues......
I am using up  this gift   today........  Cheers!

Had to share this poem!

Diane at http://looniesforlindor.blogspot.ca/ posted this poem ,   it  resonated with me....

Now, Lord, you've known me a long time. You know me better then I know myself. You know that each day I am growing older and someday may be very old, so meanwhile please keep me from the habit of thinking I must say something on every subject and on every occasion.

Release me from trying to straighten out every one's affairs. Make me thoughtful, but not moody, helpful but not overbearing. I've a certain amount of knowledge to share: still it would be nice to have a few friends who, at the end, recognized and forgave the knowledge I lacked.

Keep my tongue from the recital of endless details. Seal my lips on my aches and pains: they increase daily and the need to speak of them becomes almost a compulsion. I ask for grace enough to listen to the retelling of others' afflictions and to be helped to endure them with patience.

I would like to have improved memory, but I'll settle for growing humility and an ability to capitulate when my memory clashes with the memory of others. Teach me the glorious lesson that on some occasion I might be mistaken.

Keep me reasonably kind; I've never aspired to be a saint... saints must be rather difficult to leave with... yet on the other hand, an embittered old person is a constant burden.

Please give me the ability to see good in unlikely places and talents in unexpected people. And give me the grace to tell them so, dear Lord."

This poem  spoke to me  on a number of  levels, first I am getting older and it is easy to   fall into  counting every ache and pain, 2nd   saintly I am not  but  outright  unkind  I try not to be, tho I think when younger I was not so   thoughtful of others.... 3rd  I need help on seeing the good in  some  people.......  serenity dealing with some who  are driven by  avarice.Lastly patience in dealing with the infirm...... to sum up this poem is my 2013 resolution......

Can you help identify these "antiques"?

As some may know my sister and I have been very busy with our Mother who has  experienced a  major  health crisis.. Our Mother is now in a rehab hospital unfortunately  she  can never go home again...
Once she leaves the hospital she will be going into a long term care  home...
Besides  meeting with  Doctors and health care team,  touring long term care homes to see which we like, my sister Donna and I have  been cleaning out Mom's home ready to be sold.....
Thanks to the Internet we have been able to   identify many items.
A few have us stumped.
close up of  parfait dish

Small dish   is labelled Fire King on bottom.
Set  of  6 dessert parfaits with cornflower pattern. From the little bit I have learned don't think this is Hughes cornflower   , the rim of the  dishes are quite thin.
Set of 5 light green plates with a double swirl design

look carefully to see  double swirl
....A cream and sugar set , which I think is depression glass but not sure of the name of pattern or if really antique...
looks like a lady with scarf

not a nick or scratch  on set
Tho the Internet has been a  great resource have not been able to find  out  how to tell if this  cream and sugar  set is "newly made" or  the real antique.. Found nothing  similar  to the set of cornflower  dessert dishes.
Would be happy for any info you can pass my way...
