Blogging
Blogging helps a Grandparent relate to the grandkids on their level.
But then before you know it blogging becomes " the
beast that must be fed."
All at once you find you have to be interesting , witty, editorial, a photographer, a creative writer ........................OMG!
You start to take your camera everywhere and take so many pictures.
You look at you daily life in terms of "would this make an interesting story for my blog".
You search for quotes, cartoons anything to post.
All of a sudden you have to post everyday.
OH NO!
It HAS become an addiction.
Welcome to my world I am an addict ! thank goodness this is a gentle addiction! :-=

Ladies Play day
Friday was set aside as a ladies play day,my Mother , Sherry and myself drove to Kitchener to Rosanne's . Rosanne had planned a day of shopping in quaint little shops in the area with a break in the middle for lunch.
We started out with Rosanne driving, to the first stop Blair House in Cambridge then on through the picturesque down town of Galt to Heart Strings. Both these shops were in old stone and brick homes each containing unique decor items.Lots to oo and ah over.
We then went to Elmira to Crossroads for lunch. An Amish restaurant with a gift shop attached. Food was very good . Elderberry pie was my dessert , also rhubarb pie . The gift shop had lots of great items in particular windchimes, planters and wrought iron teacup holders.
Then on to Conestogo the Mercantile there with a retro 50 feel in one part, a very French feel in another room and a beach theme in another. The shop had some funny mugs , napkin s and other items for the stressed lady.
Waterloo was next ,the down town which is quite lovely held 2 shops we stopped at , Lily White and Blessings. Nice gift items at both.
All the shops had something of interest that appeal to the discerning lady looking for something different to have for themselves , friends and home.
It was a wonderful way to spend a day . Thanks Rosanne!

Thoughts on news. Tv , life
What can be done about this waste? Are there answers?
Problems in this country should be addressed first before government involves itself in other countries(Afganistan/Africa), wasting time on same sex marriage and other silly issues (hockey)
ignoring the real problems in this one.
Infrastructure, education , jobs and poverty should be the focus.Simplistic I know .
On a lighter subject this has been the week Tv winds up many of their series.
Jericho was very good but is not renewed for next year, at least it ended not leaving us totally in limbo .Wondered when Gerald McRaney was killed if that was a portent.
Am Idol had a very good year , quality contestants, the finale an hour too long. It was almost an after thought to find out who won , happy that Jordin did. Bette Midler was one of the stars
singing (if you can call it that) but again the "big" stars were not necessary nor was the "Big Yellow Bird" lady what an embarrassment to herself. The sparring between Ryan and Simon should be stopped , is that an example of how people should treat each other. This is a show young people watch and it should be set to a higher standard.
Lost which was a pain this year to find let along watch with the storyline gone somewhere!~ Finally in the last show the writers got their act together. Excellent adventure. Who is in the coffin? My choices Boone or Ben. Kate is married to Sawyer and I really think it was a flash forward.
Will be interesting to see if I am right.
Dancing with the Stars was very good this year with lots of excellent dancers.
Apolo won tho it could have be Laila or Joey. Will watch this show again.
Survivor lost me this year too much same old.
Amazing Race loved it tho not as much as usual(want tougher challenges again)
, still of all the reality shows it is quality and broadens people view of the world.
Will watch Can Idol. and So you think you can dance. Not sure I will watch a lot else tho. Reality is wearing for me and can you believe Big Brother is back . Horrible show.
Heroes is a great show and ended with main characters being blown up . Will they be back sure will.
All the CSI's are good well maybe not Miami but the scenery there is beautiful.
Bones an underrated show. Prison Break love Wentworth Miller.
Do you think I watch way too much Tv?
Probably.
Lastly on a personal note I have taken a couple of days off this week to garden and one to gallivant with my daughters and Mother , more to follow on where we go: gardening is so relaxing , wears me out , muscles hurt that I did not know I have, still the satisfaction I get is well worth it.
Did anyone notice the change in my retirement countdown ? Now under 500 days into the 400's.That is because I am rethinking the last day , wonder if I will change it again. Hard to stay motivated when one sees an end.
Bought 2 649 tickets for Saturday night the prize is 27 million , gosh could I retire early on that amount?
You betcha!

Victoria Day Weekend and Birthdays
Spent Saturday in Kitchener celebrating Brittany , 12 years old granddaughter, and Steve's, ?yrs old son -in-law, birthdays at Rosanne and Steve's home.
It was a warm sunny day , we sat outside on the deck.
Admiring the gardens and flowers . Lilacs were in bloom and the scent wafted across the lawn.
Rosanne had some in her front hall and the sweet
fragrance filled the home as you entered.
Rosanne and Steve have made some interesting pots up that dotted the landscape.
The Grandkids played badminton on the lawn
and also managed to get some computer time in as well.
Brittany played 3 songs on the piano, she is becoming very accomplished .
Hockey teams Ottawa and Buffalo were playing the semi final game in the afternoon , so the media room was used for some of the day to keep us (the men, okay mostly Bob and Lorne)informed re winner. Ottawa is on to the finals. Would we be Canadian if we didn't have hockey on the same weekend as "summer" officially starts?
As usual food in abundance.
Rosanne had made appetizers , fresh strawberries , watermelon, red pepper dip, cream cheese with garlic jelly and crackers and Mom made a warm
Asiago cheese dip with Calabrese bread , yummy! The recipe has been copied and is being sent to all the family.
Black currant Cosmos were served to the ladies , I only had 2 very powerful , so good, guys were into the beer.
Steve BBq'ed on his new grill.
Since it is Victoria Day weekend the
menu reflected summertime with BBQ'ed;
bratwurst, chicken , hamburgers and hotdogs, lots of salads;
potato salad, Greek salad, 6 cup salad, pesto cheese grape tomato salad, to top off the dinner Sherry made a butter pecan birthday cake with maple icing , served with vanilla ice cream . The adults topped off the meal with a wonderful dessert wine from Niagara by Konzelman winery , a Reisling Traminer , so good, light , fruity and not too sweet .
Brittany's presents were lots of clothes , mainly pink in colour, Cd's and Sims game.
Steve got lots of Mash DVD's and an I-pod Nano , case etc.
I shared some plants with Steve and Rosanne 2 very nice daylilies a double wine called Wally and a very large flowering yellow called Happy Returns, a gooseneck loosestrife and a blue grass, in turn they shared black eyed Susan, purple coneflower and some monarda with me. I can never seem to keep these alive and yet in their garden masses of them.
Drove home around 7 into a gentle rain , good for the gardens!
All and all,it was a wonderful party and a great way to start the summer season.

Melange of Thoughts
"I know I do not give enough to charities, but I am counting on Oprah to take up the slack."
Maxine
Watched Amer. Idol last night , Jordin, Blake and Melinda were all good.
I would like to see Melinda and Jordin in the top 2 with Jordin winning but think it will be Melinda who takes it. Wondering if the ladies will split the vote and Blake will make it through to top 2.
Loving Dancing with the Stars this year, the quality of the competitors is high. Sorry to see Ian out but glad Laila is still in. Thinking Apolo will take it.
2 other Cd's I am enjoying right now Jann Arden 's Uncover Me, Bring the Boys Home, At Seventeen, Counterfeit Heart all excellent but the favourite cut for me Solitaire. Loved Neil Sedaka's version of this song loved it when The Carpenters sang it but Jann does it best .
Love watching her interviewed she is so funny and genuine.
Don't ordinarily like compleation CD's but picked up Grammy nominees
2007 also quite good most of the cuts.
Dixie Chicks, John Legend, John Mayer,James Blunt and Corinne Bailey Rae, 2 that stood out for me Natasha Bedingfield and Keane.

Early Mother's Day

Interview

1.What was your relationship with your parents like?
good most of the time but of course they were not as smart as myself, they did not know anything, unlike myself that knew it all, rebelled re time to be home after teen town, got grief if late, some of my friends they did not like and I spent most of my time in my bedroom.
2. Is there a specific activity you always did with your friends?
did go skating, the beach, drive in movies, but the thing I did mostly was Teen Town dances every Friday night, hung out on the post office steps most evenings but that was in the small village with only 4 corners and all the parents knew where we were and who was with us . One other thing I did with friends was baton twirling classes I took and we were majorettes in several small parades.
3. Did you notice a lot of drug activites in your school/community?
there wasn't drugs at our school or the community .The group I hung with indulged in alcohol.
4. What would be the most modern or exciting techonology you experienced?
TV got one in 1956 12 inch screen and in the 60's colour TV In the 50's TV was only broadcast for about 4 to 6 hours a day.
5. Did you ever go on a family vacation?
Florida drove down and stopped at very interesting places in Tennessee and Kentucky .
6. What kind of music did you listen to?
Rock and Roll , Elvis Presley, The Beach Boys , The Beatles, Rolling Stones ,Chubby Checker, Del Shannon,Frankie Valli ,Buddy Holly and Elton John
7. Did you live in suburbia? Or did you notice a big change in the amount of houses being made?
Lived in a small village Glanworth maybe 100 people and no not a big growth in building.
8. Do you remember any unusual law in effect?
There was no shopping of any kind on Sundays all the stores were closed, only thing really open and not many of them, gas stations.
Birth control was not legalized until 1968.
9. Were there gangs in your community?
No had a "gang" I hung with but that was just to hang with , not like they are today.
10. What did you typically wear?
I was 13 in 1959 and wore full skirts with crinolines ,saddle shoes, sweater sets, small neck scarves, pearls, barretts, and velvet headbands. then in the 60's pedals pushers in black and white zebra stripes, bell bottoms, Oxford cloth button down blouses, man style ( usually in white and pink), Platform shoes 2 inch soles with 4 1/2 heels, hot pants in orange, lots of bright colours.
Brianne also needed 10 artifacts that one might find in your room while you were a teenager. (i.e. hula hoop, dolls) You could also ask what Grampa might have had, or if you can' think of 10, any amount would be fine. And just a tiny description of them, like their colour or shape.
In my room ,brown and beige record player with 45's, had to change the record each time a song finished and turn it over to play the other side, transitor radio , posters, psychadelic style with big flowers, mood rings silver with dark stone that changed colour with your mood from black to blue to green, Love beads that you gave friends they were usually white with mod flowers on,diary with a lock and key, lots of books, Nancy Drew, Trixie Belden, Cherry Ames and Magazines like Teen and Seventeen.and Jewellery box with music and a ballerina turning on top. My room was wallpaper in a floral paper of pinks and reds and the bedspread was pink satin quilted top.Had a desk small and a chair and that is where I did my homework it was right in front of my window which looked out on the main street so could daydream a lot.

Reality TV
Sunday night after Amazing Race , which is the best reality show, and seeing the gay guys eliminated , I just could not bring myself to watch Desperate Housewives again , storyline has become so predictable. I was flicking around and came upon Gene Simmons Family Jewels. When first heard about this show thought no way would I ever watch it. Gene Simmons seems so sleazy to me with the porn stars and the bimbo showgirls draped over him and the pride with which he claims to have slept ( had sex) with so many women.Plus he married a Playboy bunny to boot .2 spoiled mixed up kids as well.Just thought another bad show about people who luckily have too much and huge egos.
I paused long enough to see Gene and wife Shannon going into the mansion with heads bandaged , both had facelifts. The antics that then ensued where very funny. I ended up watching 2 hours of this show. They were very amusing and even tho it is scripted/staged, a good part of it,I was laughing out loud at some of the things they did. Kids are not spoiled , they really seem to like each other, there was no negativity. One show Shannon tricked Gene into a spa weekend , he thought just a weekend for the 2 of them , ended up with separate rooms, no Tv and very restricted food,
and he had to lose 5 pounds before she would have sex with him . Very funny.
Gene, then went to a porn convention where he got a golden tongue award( he does have an unusual tongue)and women draped all over him, but very clearly the public persona and the private person 2 very different people.
Try this show see what you think.
Last thought on another show Survivor, used to love it this year I have only flicked on commercial to see what is happening.Has it stayed on too long , become too predictable? I think the season that I gave up on this show was the ethnic one. I was not perturbed by the races being clumped together I thought it was a good idea, but it just did not last long enough in separate units and the contestants lately are not people I care about . Unsympathetic I can't feel any empathy for them.
